Winterization Week
Last purple daikon harvest of the year! Ruby was there to help supervise the vole situation.
Farm Update
A key focus this week is finishing up winterization because by Wednesday it looks like we’re getting some freezing temperatures that will be staying around. We have a list of equipment that needs to be prepped for that shift including cleaning up any remaining field irrigation and picking up rowcovers so they don’t freeze to the ground. We’ll also have to shift some of our “non-refrigerated” storage vegetables because where they are now will likely become too cold. Thankfully, some of it is already done, but there are so many things on the winterization list it's still a big job. The barn isn’t being heated yet, so sealing up the wash station and setting up the boiler to heat the barn (at least so it doesn’t freeze) is another key step we’re looking forward to!
It’s also our last chance to get any uncovered vegetables out of the field, so we are working on harvesting the last winter radishes and any other things that aren’t protected that we want to store short-term. It’ll mean the end (or soon-to-be end) to a few more warm-season veggies for this year, but we have plenty stored for the winter.
