Farm Update
Despite the cold dip we're in right now, we are beginning to feel a breath of spring air on the farm!
Our cold-storage is starting to look empty and the selection of root vegetables has narrowed. It is both nerve-racking to see things running low and a relief to see these vegetables go good homes. We are very thankful to everyone who has supported us over the winter and has been helping eat up everything that we stored!
Our 2026 planted crops are coming along and, especially given our cold-storage situation, we are so excited to see some of them reaching harvest stage. Watching these early crops grow through chilly nights and shorter light hours is like watching a pot of water boil. Things grow much more slowly at this time of year, but front of our minds is that the start of our main-season subscription boxes is also inching closer and closer. That makes us all the more glad to see a few crops, like herbs, starting up again and bigger plantings of lettuce close on the horizon.
We have big hopes for planting in the field this week. We cleared a dry area of the fields last week and thankfully finished preparing the beds before rain came. It will still be challenging and fairly muddy work, but for our little seedlings, the weather is reasonable enough for them to go outside. They'll be happier for it, because they are rapidly out-growing the greenhouse!
