Arugula seedings in the greenhouse
Farm Update
After a nice string of days resting and spending time with loved ones we are back for the 2025 season.  We resume production, but at a smaller volume, so we will be delving deep into planning and preparing for the spring.

Our crop plan will be revised, some procedures re-written, and there will be lots of re-organization!  There are a few spots of the farm that we have been itching to tidy up, so we’re thankful to have some time to work on it.  We’re so busy starting seedlings and planting in the spring that on the farm ‘Spring cleaning’ really has to be ‘Winter cleaning’.  This season we will also have the largest number of returning crew members than we have ever had before. We’re looking forward to having our first-ever crew Year-End Review and Planning session with this group next week.

On the production side we have been seeding more arugula and mustard greens for the greenhouse.  We like these in the winter because they don’t mind the cold and grow really quickly.  After holding back the last few weeks, we will have some lettuce and herbs again this week, this time from Hoophouse 3.
Some garlic mulching we did before the new year.  Very dusty!

Moxie
2009-January 2nd 2025

Moxie, our beloved farm dog passed away peacefully last week in her 16th year.  She skillfully protected the farm and veggies from pests, continuing patrols well into her retirement.  Her favourite vegetables were carrots, cucumbers and sweet potatoes, and she would sneak them out of folk’s bags on pick-up day if they weren’t looking.  An ever-cheerful greeter, she loved ear rubs, catching cookies out of the air and chattered her teeth together when she was really excited.  Moxie was a friend to everyone she met and will be deeply missed.
