Farm Update

The farm team is very happy to welcome Dhivahar to the crew!  Dhivahar has been working for us at Kitchener Market since the summer, but recently joined our full-time on-farm team.  As a smart and hardworking person who is willing to jump right into new tasks, he fits right in.  It's also wonderful to have a new farm-worker who already knows the basics of running a CGF market stand.  Londoners should be seeing him at Western Fair soon, so make sure to give him a warm welcome!

In other farm news, hundreds of new lettuce plants are going in the ground this week.  It's in part thanks to the walk-behind rototiller we purchased in the early fall.  Instead of spending hours this week shoveling and wheel-hoeing, we only had to do this manual prep on about a quarter of Hoophouse 2, and the tiller took care of the rest.  Its great to be able to transfer a lot of that labour to a machine, and save the careful planting for our conscientious team.

Many fall crops are winding down so it feels good to initiate these new crops.  Our first grafted tomatoes are healing with a decent success rate, and other crop variety too look forward to will be red Russian kale, spring carrots, beets, choi, herbs (including living basil!) and others that are all in the works now.  Its going to be a great year!

Farm Store Notes:

Things to Note from us: Chard, herbs, and lettuce is now coming from our hoophouses and most everything else is from storage with the exception of kale and sunchokes (and maybe a few other crops that might still be ok in the field!)

From our suppliers: Sweet potatoes and red onions from from HOPE Ecofarms.  Through Pfennings: three types of delicious Ontario-grown potatoes, beets, parsnips, black spanish radish.  Additionally, mushrooms and organic jazz apples. Travelling from further away: broccoli, cauliflower, celery, green onions, lemons, limes, oranges, kiwi, turmeric and ginger.

We also have Plant-based Beet Burgers from New Leaf Planet Based Foods.  Andy made these using our beets!   From Booch in London we have Fire Cider and kombucha mixed packs. Sunflower and hemp oil from Mat's Fine Oils are back in stock.

Bread is available from Seth and Artisan Bakery this week.

Milk, yogurt and curds are available from Mistyglen this week.
