Farm Update

Thank you to all who came out to Middle River Music Festival on Saturday. It was wonderful to have everyone on the farm to connect about local food and fantastic music.

Last week we had great opportunities to get a ton of weeding done.  At this time of year Mondays and Tuesdays are key days where we can have almost everybody working on tasks like weeding.  When those days are also sunny and slightly windy, all the better because weeds are far less likely to re-root.  By Wednesday we switch and need the majority of the crew focusing on regular production (ie. harvesting, washing, packing, sorting, delivering, and going to market with all your veggies!) so anything else we are able to get done at the beginning of the week is very important.

Its looking like this week will be mostly the same, but a little hotter.  We will be continuing on the storage carrot weeding project and cleaning up our other young fall/winter crops.  We are trying to be more careful about weeding our regular quick crops like lettuce because incomplete weeding a few weeks ago led to us being very short on it last week.

With good weeding and careful planning, its looking like we will finally have enough lettuce very soon.  We have had to increase the lettuce quantity in our crop plan 3 times already this year to meet the demand for it, but it can be tricky because we don't want to waste time and resources on planting too much.  So far that hasn't been the case, so we feel relieved to finally be reaching some much larger successions.  Not a moment too late though because believe it or not, we start seeding sensitive crops for indoor plantings in just a few weeks!

WE ARE HIRING:
We are hiring a delivery driver for 2-3 days a week.  Resumes should be sent to chris@commongroundfarm.ca
