Late-summer and lots to do!

Farm Update

Looks like we are back to summer weather this week!  We are happy to hear because it keeps our fruiting crops in good production and helps those later fall crops get big before things really start to slow down.  It’s a good mix though because the cool nights allow us to grow more cool-weather loving crops like spinach, hakurei turnips and mustard greens.  In not too long we’ll have larger choi again as well.

We have the last small plantings of carrots to weed this week, but aside from that our weeding outside is slowing down.  It’s also a relief to see the insect pressure (especially from flea beetles) start to slow down and its finally time that we can grow mustard greens and arugula without insect netting cover.  The next ongoing project is the hoophouse and greenhouse turn-overs for winter crops.

Setting your Preferences: You can set food preferences for your subscription!  These preferences will change what goes into the initial list of produce we send you.  We really recommend doing this (or updating it) because it helps you start out with more things you like, especially if you don't end up customizing your share on a given week.  Also note: If you were a member with us when we used Harvie, your preferences were not able to be carried over and should be re-set!  To change them, go to ‘My Account’ and look on the right side of the page, or click this link below:
Job opportunities: We would like to add a crew member for the fall, which would really make sure we have enough hands to harvest staple crops we need for throughout the winter.  If you or anyone you know are interested in working with us through the fall (and potentially into the next year) click on the job add below.

We are also looking for a delivery driver!  Driver resumes should be sent to chris@commongroundfarm.ca
